How to save on food expenses?
It may sound corny, but the list is a real salvation for those who always come into the store on an empty stomach and throw off supermarket shelves in the truck – getting all that is able to provoke appetite by the smell, appearance and colorful packaging. In fact, it turns out that most of the products purchased in this way you do not need at home.
So try to find at least five minutes before coming to the store and think about what you really need to buy. Remember - a freshly cooked meal is always healthier and tastier. Just on the way home from work, you have time to think about the upcoming dinner menu, try to remember ingredients that are at home, and what is missing – then, you will be shopping with a purpose and no time or money will be wasted.
Of course, there is a list of foods that can be bought in advance in stores and wholesale: it is, first of all, pasta, cereals, tea, coffee, spices, salt, sugar, milk, flour, oil, some vegetables - in a word, all the products with long storage qualities.
Our next point is looking for discounts. You always respond to icons "%" or «Sale», when it turns on the clothes? Then why neglect them in grocery stores?
You should visit large supermarket chains that tend to sell products at better prices more often than you think - just pay attention to the colorful price tags and labels marked "advantageous" / "%" / "buy 2 packs - the third will get for free." The last sentence should be used if the offer is for long-term storage products - then the benefits of buying for the future is clear.
Another clever tip is to pay attention to the products that are manufactured under the brand name of the supermarket - their prices are significantly lower and the quality is often not worse to that which we used to get from manufacturers.
What is more, keep shopping simple! Do not pay money for a nice package because the content may not always correspond to the outer shell. To put it simply, no matter how strong your craving for beauty is the fact remains: beautifully packaged, and even washed and sliced fruits and vegetables, herbs, meat products can leave a hole in your budget! Save on these things, if you are not lazy and can dare buy one head of cabbage and some carrots instead of the same shredded products in a form of 200 grams of salad in colorful vacuum bags.
Our next advice is to follow the seasons! Seasonal fruits and vegetables are always cheaper and more useful in comparison to those that are on the shelves all year round and always look the same. Every time of the year there are a number of fruit and vegetable sets that will vary the diet and not ruin your wallet.
Finally, do not litter! Calculate how much food you throw out just because "today you cooked too much chicken for dinner?" But this same chicken can go into a salad, and pizza or sandwich to work. The fact is if we buy a lot, then we have to throw out a lot. That is a growing concern globally and there are many social movements on that. But if you are not yet ready to become freegan, then you'll definitely be thrifty by force! By the way, do not forget to freeze food that can be harvested in the summer i.e. seasonal berries, vegetables, mushrooms, when they are in abundance and cheaper than in winter – then, in off-season you do not have to spend money buying frozen mixtures.
